hurts. There’s just no way to minimize this one. In fact, I was so glad it wasn’t broken and now I’ve found out that the injury I have hurts *more* than a break and takes longer to heal *smacks forehead*
We were getting ready to leave the house the other day and I realized the boys’ bikes were still out and not in the backyard so I decided to put them back there so that no one messed with them. I grabbed up Aidan’s spider man bike and headed through the gate. Our porch is something I told dh when we first moved in was going to result in someone getting hurt and we’ve made some accomadations but haven’t done what needs to be done. The shut off valve for the water to the house is right next to it and has a cover on it, but the cover was askew and when I thought I was stepping beside the hole I was stepping on the edge of it.
You know how life sometimes mirrors cartoons? That’s how it felt when I was looking down my leg to the bottom of my foot because it had turned sideways and upside down. I heard and felt the snap at the same time and went straight past wanting to vomit to wanting to pass out and then I was crying out to God that my babies were in the car and I couldn’t pass out in the back yard! And please please please don’t let it be broken!
DH picks up the story from here and says that his phone rang and when he answered it he hears “IIIIIIIITTTTTTT HUUUUUURRRRRRTTTTSSSS” several times in a row so loud that his co-worker (10 feet away) asked if it was his wife and then said he’d better leave and meet me at the ER. So he did, and I drove myself there (not at all easy since the injury was to my RIGHT foot!)
After an x-ray the PA had them wrap my foot and put me on crutches and told me that it’s a severe sprain of the ankle and I damaged the tendon down to my second toe. He said if it’s still hurting in a week to see my doctor and he’ll decide if I need physical therapy. ARGH! Well, that happened Wednesday and it HURTS today! Still! It hurts–bad.
So I’m off my foot the rest of the day, but I can’t do that all the time because with five children it’s just not that easy. So I’m calling Tuesday to make a follow up Dr. appt and I was told to ask to see an Orthopedist and get a rocking foot brace. That’s supposed to help.
